Mountain Grizzly are the kings of the forest. These formidable creatures earned the respect of early pioneers, for their size, strength, and potentially dangerous attitude.
Grizzlies are hunted in the spring (May) while their fur is still prime from the winter. Hunting is done by horseback and on foot. The bears usually head for the slides to enjoy the banquet offered by the appearance of the first spring grass.

Mountain Grizzlies range in colour from black with silver tips, to yellow gold. Depending on how the sun hits them, their fur seems to glow any number of hues (silver, icy-grey, gold).

A full grown male is an awesome sight averaging 6 feet tall (that's a lot of bear). Their strength is incredible, as is evident when a bear flips a boulder with one paw, that two men can barely move. Their speed is also deceptive. What looks to be a slow walk for a bear can be a good trot for a man.

Spring Black Bear hunts are run from May through to June and we have approximately 70% colour phase bears.

Black Bear are at their best in the early spring with their full glossy coats. Our area has a healthy population of black and grizzly bears.

We combine black bear with our grizzly hunts, as they inhabit the same territory. Black bears range from pure black, to brown, or cinnamon in colour. In addition to the spring season, black bears may be hunted in the fall season (see our Mixed Bag Hunt).

Finding the tracks of a large bear quickens the blood and heightens the senses. If you are up to a bear hunt let us know soon. Grizzly bear permits are limited and are usually booked well in advance. To send us a note or complete a hunt request form go to our Contact Page.
